The City Gave Her To Me (Poem)

An original poem.
The City Gave Her To Me (Poem)

The city gave her to me
Developed in her streets
And released into my hand

I held her there tightly
She wriggled
And the city pulled her free again

I could hold her for a night
As we walked and laughed through the streets
I could promise her every light

But when the night lifts
And the day sulks in
I’m still just a country boy living off the land

And so the landlocked heart
Must release the sailor to the city

Woman pays the price for freedom
While Man pays the rest
